Summerlost is a Newbery Honor Book for 2016.
It's the first real summer since the accident that killed Cedar's father and younger brother, Ben. Cedar and what's left of her family are returning to the town of Iron Creek for the summer. They're just settling into their new house when a boy named Leo, dressed in costume, rides by on his bike.
This book promises to be a bit of a tear jerker I think. It celebrates frienships and healing after loss. I'm about halfway through, and it's pretty good so far!
In other Book Club news, we got the OK to go ahead with our book exchange during Open House on Thursday, March 2.
We are going to collect used books, appropriate for grades K - 12, and sort them, and have them set out in the library during Open House. Students can come by and take a new book! I think this is a great way to get new reading material for free. So get busy and clean out your bookshelves. I will do the same!
Leftover used books will be donated to a needy school. I will need help packing leftover books, so maybe someone can volunteer for that.
Looking forward to our next meeting on Wednesday, Feb.15.
