" Four best friends. Four ways to serve their country. Morris, Rudi, Ivan, and Beck are best friends for life. So when one of the teens is drafted into the Vietnam War, the others sign up, too. Although they each serve in a different branch, they are fighting the war together--and they pledge to do all they can to come home together. "
Austin recommended this book after reading some other books by this author. I have to say that it's really, really good so far. We read Part 1 for this week's meeting, and have committed to reading up to Ch. 12 by next week. The characters are so well thought out and the descriptions of their interactions give us a great look into their deep friendship. I'm a little nervous about them all going off to war, and I wonder how the Vietnam war will effect each of them.
We still have lots of time to read a few more good books before the school year ends. We'll have our final meeting and party on May 18.
Thanks for Book Club today, it was fun. You guys (Austin, Nicole, Julian and Ainsley were here today!) are amazing, your enthusiasm for books makes me happy.
