Although we had a good laugh over this in Book Club today, the reality is that there are many people in our community who can't concentrate because they are hungry. Reading a book would be a luxury to them, something that they might want to do but their living situation makes it impossible.
Our lives might not be perfect, but...we know that we won't be hungry and we'll have a warm bed to sleep in, clean clothes, friends, and ..... books to read whenever we want. We are blessed, we should be thankful.
For those of us who are able to read this weekend, we are going to try and get to Chapter 10 in The Girl Who Drank the Moon. Our next meeting is Thursday, Sept. 28.
A couple other things on my mind...
---It would be fun to watch the Newbery Awards presented in real time, especially if we had read all the nominated books and voted for the book we think should win. I'm going to look into this.
---With all the natural disasters that have happened in the past few weeks, I think that we should try and get involved in helping another library get back on their feet. Be thinking of things we could do. Sending books can be costly (shipping is expensive) but maybe there is some other way to sponsor or help a library that has suffered damage and loss of books due to the hurricanes. I think as a club it would be a great thing to do. I'm going to look into this too.
We welcomed one new member, Nate, today. Book Club for this particular book is now closed. We will open it back up to new members once we have finished all of our discussions about The Girl Who Drank the Moon.
See you all next week.
